Mental Health and Insurance Coverage within the U.S.
Over the past few years, insurance coverage , access to care, and mental health have become increasingly hot topics of discussion throughout the United States. As these topics are more deeply explored going forward, it makes sense to explore links between the two so a more informed discussion can be had. The present analysis will explore recent mental health issues, insurance coverage, and a recent lack in coverage. These links will be explored with information collected by the CDC. Specifically, the datasets utilized come from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The BRFSS is a survey of telephone interviews conducted by state health departments across the US that began in 1984. For our purposes, focus will be on the years 2009 to 2018.

Why logistic regressions are your friend in the face of vague data.
Ahh the doctor’s office, fluorescent lights and anxiety tinge the atmosphere from the waiting room to the sterile exam room. The medical information collected from patients verbally and physically inform physician diagnoses and subsequent treatment. This data is often a mix of objective and subjective data. Said data can be continuous or discrete depending on if measurements are taken, questions are asked, and the nature of said questions. This makes developing a model encompassing the data in its entirety tricky. An excellent example of said data can be found here will be used for the purposes of this blog.
